The Serpent Clip is made by a stamping and winding process in a special alloy metal, and is aged by a unique galvanic process. The clip is finally adorned with two green spinels set as the eyes of the serpent. Rhodium-plated, two-toned nib reveals an engraved serpent with an artfully placed triangular breather hole. Note that the Black version of the Rouge et Noir does not include the refinements that the Coral version does.

The Black version does not include jewels as the serpent's eyes, and the nib is single tone rhodium. The resin cap has a large cream-colored snowcap (Montblanc star) with a ridged ring around the finial, similar to the look of the historic 1906 safety pens.
