This wonderful Montblanc is a TRUE first issue. I love its Extra LONG Lined Transparent see through Orange Amber Barrel Window for viewing your ink reserve inside the pen. This is the longest window of ALL the 139's. With each production run every other year the Window length gets shorter and shorter on all 139's.
These Long Windows are the ones to collect. Rare to find such a clean window with such strong lines still visible as this example has. This pen transforms its look once full of ink (see photo 8).
But like a Phoenix rising from the ashes as you write and write the Fiery Glow from within starts to slowly reveal itself until its crescendo of full resplendent glory is revealed once its last drop of ink has graced the page with its endless possibility for creativity. Only to be re filled and enjoyed all over again. This pen is simply stunning to hold and admire. This is no show Pony. This Majestic Pen is a Thoroughbred writer for the TRUE writing connoisseur. This pens ULTRA RARE 250 14C Nib is so creative its ONLY limitation is the imagination and writing ability of its user. Also the Ink Flow is off the Charts Good. Never skipped a beat during its writing sample and I really push them. Perfect Feed for a Perfect Nib.
These pens have perfect weight, width and length balance in the hand when writing. The 139 is the father of the 149. Same width and Nib Size. ONLY pre order L139 made before 1939 have this central Ring Imprint. These 3 Ring bands are the FIRST time Montblanc EVER used the 3 rings band design. These 1st issue have UNIQUE font and only use 2/3rds of the Central Band for MONTBLANC-MASTERPIECE with a 1/3 being Blank/Empty space on the ring. These early model 139 were the first size 9 piston filler pen Montblanc EVER made. 1st launched in 1938-39 these Telescopic Piston pens are where it all began for Montblanc in terms of having a unique filling system they designed them selves. Prior to the model 13x ALL earlier Montblanc pens were copies of other manufacturers pens. Eye Droppers, Safety, Lever, Nibs and Feeds all copied Waterman and Parker Duofold for their Button fill pens etc.Although other manufacturers like Pelikan made Piston fill pens 7 years before Montblanc it was the Metal Telescopic Piston Montblanc invented that was Head and Shoulders above everyone else's. However it was so expensive and complex to manufacture Montblanc stopped production in 1958 and reverted to the much cheaper to manufacture and simpler Pelikan design plastic single action piston. So only Meisterstuck pens made between 1936-58 have these fabulous Telescopic Metal Pistons. These were also the first Montblanc pens to use Celluloid.
The Cap & Barrel are Celluloid. The Piston Housing and Tail End are BHR (Black Hard Rubber). The White Star Cap top is also BHR surround with a Casein white Star. Of course the real Star of the show with this fabulous pen has to be its 1st issue 14C 250 Nib. Writes with a Fine line that has Extra Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. Very elegant and perfect for everyday use. It is also quite user friendly for such a Fine nib and has zero paper scratch.
However this Nib really comes alive the moment you exercise its amazing flexibility. This Masterpiece Nib can write ALL line widths. EF to BB, on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. The flex is also quite user friendly in that it is not to Soft, Loose or Twitchy/ ONLY flexes on user command, Never by itself. My favourite type of flex. Unlike ANYTHING Montblanc make today. Indeed not since the late 1950s. But I would go further still and say this nibs flex is better than ANY 1950s 149 or 1940s 139 I have EVER used. I have every 139 variation from 14C 250 to Palladium 250 to Steel 250 and back to gold (1945-50s) 14c 139 nibs. This pens nib is the best by far. The truth is many 1940s 139 and 1950s 149 don't have great flex nibs. Often the best flex nibs are found on 136 and 146 of these ERA. But this 1st issue 14C 250 nib is special and in truth beyond compare..Indeed this pens 14C 250 Nib is the RAREST and most highly sought after of ALL Montblanc nibs ever made. Only issued on 1st issue 139 that were pre order (Pre War Gold Ban of 1938). This EF example with FULL Flex is the most sought after of ALL the 14C 250 nibs so we have the Rarest, most Desirable and most Creative to write with. Montblanc nibs simply do not get ANY better or coveted than this. Nib is in Mint condition it has ZERO damage, cracks or repairs etc.
Its Iridium tips are perfect and good to last several more lifetimes. The rare three tone 250 14C nib was ONLY made from 1936 to 1938 and was ONLY ever issued to Meisterstuck/Masterpiece models 129 & 139.
After 1938 Germany had a ban on Gold manufacture of ANYTHING non military. So from 1938-45 Montblanc 250 Nibs were made of Steel and a very few in Palladium. After 1945 they re numbered the nibs from 250 to 139. So this pen for sale can ONLY date between 1938 and early 1939. Just serviced with new cork. Works and writes as when new. C ome s ready to write just add your favorite colour bottled ink... Perfect as a gift or treat yourself to a wonderful collectible fountain pen that can be used and enjoyed daily..Please view all the Photographs they form large part of the description. All photographs are of actual pen. What you see is everything you receive.
