Montblanc Masterpiece 149 G Earliest 1950s Silver Rings Fountain Pen Mint

Thanks for looking at this Montblanc Masterpiece 149G Silver Rings 1950s Fountain Pen. This is an exceptional version of this grand dame of fountain pens. It is the very earliest iteration of the 149 and is in extraordinary condition.

This is a telescopic filling fountain pen. The celluloid 1950s 149s have silver rings instead of the gold-plated ones found in all versions from the 60s onward. It comes in its original Montblanc box with 1950s booklet.

This is a beautiful and incredibly rare early version of the celluloid silver rings 149. The ink window on this has to be seen to be believed. While the 149 never had the length of window like the longest 139s, it still had three lengths and this is the longest of those.

These are found distinctively on early versions. It has a gorgeous green hue to it. These 149s left the factory with green windows but ink and use caused them to turn amber and that's the colour most commonly found. To find a long, green-coloured ink window on a 149 is a rare sight indeed.

The nib is the gorgeous'139' 14c tri-tone. These nibs are from the earlier 139 era and were used for only a very short time on the 149 series which replaced them. They are larger than the'149' nibs that came immediately afterwards. Aspects that testify to it being the very earliest of the celluloid 149s.

Shaded background to'M' in Montblanc symbol on nib. Glorious 14c tri-tone with'139' imprint.

This version of the 149 is in incredible condition. I think it is fair to call this mint vintage condition.

Its celluloid has some signs of storage and the cap has a small bit of shrinkage noticeable at top of clip but is in remarkable condition for a pen of its age. As I said, the ink window is still green. The imprints are beautifully clear and deep. The silver rings are tight. The pen is filling and writing beautifully.

I'm not sure how you could find a better example of this legendary pen short of getting your hands on a new old stock one. This is an amazing opportunity to acquire one of the rarest examples of a 149 silver rings in fantastic condition. If you have questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.
