This is a genuine Montblanc Meisterstuck Diplomat 149 fountain pen in very lightly handled condition, with an 18ct gold tri-colour medium nib and gold trim. It has its original sticker with "M Germany" on it still stuck on the barrel. The tricolour nib and feed design suggest c. The authenticity of the pen is demonstrated with the light test - genuine black precious resin Montblanc pens glow red when backlit - fakes glow blue or brown. The pen also carries a laser-inscribed unique number on the clip band, which were introduced from c 1991.
The pen's condition is genuinely outstanding - glossy, absolutely no damage or scratches. The pen appears to have been very lightly used and then stored away. The only marks I could find under magnification were around the ink window - some very slight cap rubbing (see photo). Otherwise the pen is virtually spotless and has no damage, cracks or gouges, and the metalwork is all clean and without brassing or bends or scuffs.
The piston filler is working perfectly, drawing and expelling water (it is untested in ink). Dating the pen has been possible by studying the ink feed and the tri-colour nib in 18ct. This design of ink feed is called "early plastic" and it was phased out in 1996.
The 18ct trim-colour nib was brought in from 1994 (to present day). Thus we can date this pen's manufacture between 1994 - 1996.
It is in stunning condition for 28 - 30 years of age. The box and papers are as new both inside and out.
