Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 Fountain Pen Exceptionally Rare Triangle Cap Logo

Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 Fountain Pen (unboxed). The pen has been carefully used over the years and is presented in overall lovely condition - the gold trim is bright and the black precious resin has a deep shine. We've been writing with it for over a week now, the left tine on the nib is maybe 0.1mm lower but it's not skipped once in all the time we've used it. There's also a tiny hairline crack between the edge of the cap and the first gold ring - it's entirely stable and virtually no-one would spot it, but it's mentioned for a complete description. This is exceptionally rare 149 and for a reason that many people might not be familiar with. When Montblanc were looking to make further inroads in to the burgeoning Saudi Arabian market back in the 1970's they believed that the iconic snowcap logo was too similar to the Star of David. With Israel and Saudi Arabia being not exactly on the best terms, they decided to change the logo to a white triangle. So for an extremely brief period Montblanc launched their pens with the triangle, before a significant backlash from both the Israeli and Saudi sides brought this to a swift halt. It seems quite amazing that an multi-national such as Montblanc would make such a change for individual markets and these Triangle logo pens now find themselves with a rather interesting place in Montblanc history. These pens even baffle many Montblanc boutiques who have never seen or heard of them. This pen is relatively easy to date (especially with the Triangle), with there being a number of key features, these are... The 14C bi-tone nib, split ebonite feed, one piece barrel, black piston threads and Germany only clip markings. These all confirm the approximate date of the middle to late 1970's. As with all other 149's this is a piston filling pen. We've serviced the mechanism, which is incredibly smooth and fills as it should.
