It can be dated pre-1989 (when the Berlin Wall fell and Germany was unified) as it has "W-GERMANY" around the clip band (post-Berlin-wall-fall, they were marked simply "GERMANY") and it carries no unique serial number, that system being first introduced in 1991. So this is a relative rarity with that bit more history. It is authenticated as genuine as it passes the light test - genuine Montblanc resin glows red when backlit (see photographs). Fakes glow grey or blue.
Condition is genuinely excellent for a >30 year old pen. The precious black resin is in excellent condition - no cracks, splits, damage etc. Overall, the resin is eye-catchingly glossy. The gold trim is also in excellent order, the cap band carries the "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK" complex engraving around it. The pen clip band is stamped "W-GERMANY".
This generation of pens pre-dates the serial number system, which was introduced in the early 1990s. In a beautiful Montblanc box which appears more modern than 1989. Box is in excellent condition, one small pink dot mark to the pen bed (see photo).
