A majestic example of the Art of Writing. One of Montblanc's most iconic pen.
Extremely rare 1950s Montblanc 149 with solid 18 Karat Overlay. This is a substantial, hefty, top end product produced by Montblanc. This pen is in superb condition without any dents or damage. The overlay is a wonderful plain and striped design reminiscent of a watermelon!
The cap band is imprinted with: "MONTBLANC" and "750" for 18 K Gold. Montblanc didn't had the experience and the technique back in the 60's-early 80's. To make a solid gold 149. The year when MB introduced their own manufactured solid gold 149 was 1988.
Since Montblanc did not do the overlay, a solid gold "dome" top was added to replace the snowcap. The boutique created a very limited number of these between the 1950s and 1980s. With very few ever surfacing for sale.
And some estimates claiming less than 100 pieces created. These were created by a french artisan until Montblanc. Had the experience and technique to create their own manufactured solid gold in 1988.
This particular pen has an 18k hallmark "750" on the cap. And appears to be a later example due to the 18k nib. Fully working and ready to write. Comes fitted with the original Montblanc 4810 18k gold. Pictures are part of the description. Unpaid items will be relisted.
